Storytelling

Storytelling is part of the deep indigenous oral tradition of Filipino culture. Equipping communities to tell stories as a means of communicating culture, faith, and information is a tool for empowerment both as a way of preserving tradition and of communicating effectively in the midst of illiteracy and scarce resources. Books are hard to come by in the communities in which Together in Hope works. Together in Hope is committed to telling and empowering the telling of stories important to the Filipino people. In all of the communities where Together in Hope works, that includes the stories of the Bible. Eighty-six percent of the Philippine population identifies as Christian. Empowering communities that so identify to tell orally the stories of the Bible helps these communities to enhance their spiritual practice. Together in Hope teaches storytelling skills that enable any community of any faith to tell the stories central to their identity. Where other stories are important, those stories are also taught and told.
